Newcastle’s Neighbouring Colliery Band

Backworth sits some six miles north east of Newcastle city centre, and Newcastle has been part of the band’s story for well over a century: in 1904 it won the First Section at the Newcastle Contest, and in 1929 it competed at the Newcastle Exhibition.

Today the band plays across the city, from concerts and civic occasions to weddings, launches and Christmas events.

The band is amateur and self-funding, so every fee goes back into instruments, music and the Training Band.
