Backworth Colliery Band plays in Sunderland regularly, at churches, charity events and community occasions across the city, including Roker Methodist Church in May 2014.

The city’s colliery villages know the sound of a brass band too: on Durham Miners’ Gala day in 2009 the band marched around Hetton-le-Hole before playing through the streets of Durham.

The band is amateur and self-funding, so every fee goes back into instruments, music and the Training Band.
