Your Information
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Backworth Colliery Band (“the band”, “we”) uses personal information collected through this website. Last updated November 2026.
What we collect
When you use a form on this website we collect the details you choose to give us: usually your name, email address and message, and where relevant your telephone number, organisation and event details. If you sign up for updates we collect your email address.
How we use it
We use your details only to reply to your enquiry and, if it leads to one, to arrange a booking, a visit to rehearsal or your involvement with the band. We send news about concerts and events only if you have asked us to, and you can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any message or emailing us.
Our legal basis
We process enquiries because we have a legitimate interest in responding to them, and mailing-list sign-ups and Google Analytics on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Where it goes and how long we keep it
Form submissions are emailed to the band’s email account. We do not sell your information, and we do not share your form details with anyone else unless the law requires us to. We keep enquiries only as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry or booking, and mailing-list details until you unsubscribe. Our website host stores the site, and our security software records visitors’ IP addresses to protect the site from abuse.
Cookies and Google Analytics
Some cookies are needed for the website to work and to remember your cookie choices, so they are set without asking: cookieyes-consent remembers your choices (for one year), and wp_consent_ cookies pass them to the parts of the site that need them, such as Google Analytics (for 30 days). We do not use advertising cookies.
With your permission, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use, so we can improve the site and understand how people find the band. It records things like the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search or from Facebook), your approximate location (town or region), and the type of device and browser you use. It does not give us your name or contact details, and it does not store your IP address. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which last up to two years.
Google Analytics cookies are only set if you choose “Accept All” in the cookie banner, or switch on Analytics under “Customise”. If you choose “Reject All”, no Analytics cookies are set, though Google may still receive basic signals without cookies (for example, that a page was viewed), which cannot identify you and help it estimate overall visitor numbers. You can change your mind at any time with the cookie button in the corner of the screen, or by clearing your browser’s cookies.
Google Analytics is provided by Google, which may process this information outside the UK, including in the United States, with safeguards recognised under UK data protection law. Google keeps the detailed records for no more than 14 months. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com.
The map on our Contact page is provided by Google. It only loads if you choose “Show map”, and Google may then set its own cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
